The Qualcomm Institute launched a new website today to enhance its communication about the institute’s programs, services and value.

“Many people who know us are incredibly enthusiastic about what we have to offer,” says QI Director Ramesh Rao. “The new website reflects our effort to keep connecting both with those who are familiar with QI and those who aren’t—the faculty, staff, students, researchers, artists, engineers, entrepreneurs and supporters who are interested in taking an innovative, multi-disciplinary, technology-forward approach to today’s challenges.”

QI’s new web presence features a looping video on the home page put together by QI’s A/V team that gives a taste of QI’s high-tech facilities and multidisciplinary programs; a welcome letter from the director; and easier navigation throughout. Menu options lead directly to information on QI’s research programs, educational offerings, news, and upcoming events, as well as QI’s shared services, which span nanofabrication and prototype design to grant-writing and event services.

New to the site is an option to subscribe to the institute’s newsletter, which is now published every other month, as well as the opportunity to donate to QI through UC San Diego’s platform.

An updated color palette features QI’s traditional tech-inspired grays with UC-aligned teal and cyan elements, encompassing QI’s dual affiliations with the UC San Diego campus and the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2), part of the University of California system’s Gray Davis Institutes for Science and Technology.

The site is built on a WordPress content management system, which will provide staff much easier access to the backend of the site to facilitate updates to keep information current.

While the new QI site is now live, the website remains a work-in-progress. “A website is always a moving target,” said Mika Elizabeth Ono, QI director of communications. “We welcome suggestions on how to continue to improve the site, now and in the future.”

Ono also thanked outside consultant TRÜF; Scott Blair, QI web and graphic designer; Areli Alvarez, web designer; Alex Matthews, photographer and videographer; and Beth Delong, executive assistant; for their contributions to the project, as well as everyone from the QI and UC San Diego community who helped review and beta-test the site.
