Events & Presentation Spaces

The Qualcomm Institute’s Atkinson Hall is a premier venue for events, productions and performances, both for the academic community and general public. QI hosts more than 100 events, conferences, and symposiums annually—from small, intimate gatherings to large multi-day conferences and complex technology showcases. The QI Auditorium and associated spaces are outfitted with state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment available, and QI’s experienced staff are committed to making every event a success.

Venues & Facilities

QI Auditorium

One of the most sophisticated 4k cinema/theater spaces at UC San Diego, the Auditorium seats up to 201 and is the central focus of many events in Atkinson Hall. The QI Auditorium is a unique opportunity to experience top-of-the-line sound quality for high-end musical and experimental spatialization sound presentations.

QI Theater

A truly reconfigurable “black box” space for the performing arts, the Theater can host up to 90 guests for lectures, meetings, poster sessions, exhibitions, receptions, performance art and music. The Theater also offers an ultra-high resolution video wall (VROOM) for special presentations that require maximum visualization display.

QI Lobby/Pre-Function Area

An open, naturally lighted gathering space outside the Auditorium and the Theater, the Pre-Function Area is most commonly used for receptions before and after events and meals during the day. Capacity is 80-100 seated and 150-200 standing.

QI Courtyard

An attractive outdoor event space useful for hosting receptions and meals, the QI Courtyard can also be used as an overflow area for larger events needing additional reception space, outdoor performance space or demonstration space.

QI Conference Rooms

With laptop presentation capabilities and multi-configurable tables and chairs, the Atkinson Hall Conference Rooms can host small-group discussions, breakout sessions and connections with off-site participants via installed USB-based camera and microphone systems.

QI Production Studio

A five-room, 1,735-square-foot production facility is equipped to create educational, scientific, artistic and communications content, including for Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). Features include live-switched multi-camera recording, teleprompter, green screen, Learning Glass, video conferencing and live web streaming.

Virtual and Hybrid Services

In addition to on-site events, QI’s events team supports virtual and hybrid gatherings. Services include live streaming, Zoom webinar hosting, captions and translations, audience engagement tools, event registration, archival recording and music enhancement. Prepare your Zoom meetings and webinars with an experienced Zoom expert to provide background support for hosting and managing your Zoom interactions with a professional and polished delivery.
