SURFIoT presentation highlights iGravi Lab

Aditi Majumder, a professor in the Department of Computer Science at UC Irvine, spoke to SURFIoT Fellows and guests Thursday at CALIT2.

Majumder’s presentation outlined the progress being made at UCI’s iGravi (Interactive Graphics and Visualization Lab). iGravi has been a pioneer in creating immersive virtual reality environments where multiple projectors are used to illuminate large surfaces to create a seamless virtual environments in which one or more users can navigate and interact. Her talk also highlighted a current SURFIoT research project that uses iGravi techniques to light a sandpit with multiple projectors to create projected augmented reality games.

SURFIoT Fellows attend a series of seminars during the summer program to get a deeper understanding of ongoing research projects and enhance their knowledge about telecommunications and information technology systems and applications. Students will present their research findings Aug. 31, at the SURF-IoT Symposium at CALIT2.

The program, co-sponsored by UCI’s Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) and CALIT2, provides students with a unique experience. Each student has the guidance of a UCI faculty mentor, along with the opportunity to gain experience and advanced training in state-of-the-art facilities and techniques.
